INDIANA, Pa. – The IUP women's soccer program responded after allowing the initial goal in the first half, capitalizing with a goal of its own in the opening half and playing to a 1-1 draw with Clarion on Wednesday after at South Campus Field.
Julia Csernyik launched her third goal of the season for IUP (4-4-3, 3-4-2) after stepping into a set piece from about 30 yards out and bouncing it inside the left post in the 36th minute. Clarion (2-6-4, 2-5-3) opened the scoring in the 30th minute as Emily Mannion settled down a long corner ball from Kylee Cross and buried the chance.
Clarion had a slight 10-8 edge in shots, while IUP placed a pair of chances on goal. Scoreless into the second half, both sides increased their pace and intensity with the clock winding down in search for a second goal.
IUP stayed steady on the defensive end with Clarion threatening on occasion into the second half with
Kylie Warren,
Kristen Finnerty,
Rachel Kalkbrenner and Csernyik anchoring the IUP back line throughout the afternoon.
Emma Hays sent the final shot for either side wide left in the 87th minute.
Vanessa Berlin collected five saves, including a charging stop in the second half, playing all 90 minutes in goal. Her counterpart, Alex Valez made one save on the afternoon.
