SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The IUP swimming & diving program opened the 2023-24 season on Wednesday at Shippensburg, coming away with a dual meet sweep at the Heiges Field House. The IUP women's squad posted a 135-69 victory against Shippensburg, while the men won by a 121.5-71.5 tally.
IUP won 15 of 22 total events on Wednesday, receiving strong contributions from a talented group of first-year newcomers. Coupled with some experienced returners, IUP showcased the potential for a deep team through one dual meet as the 2023-24 season progresses.
Overall, four IUP swimmers won multiple individual events in the meet.
Freshman
Tina Cudina won a pair of individual events in the 50 free (24.89) and 100 free (54.93), also part of the winning 200 medley relay (1:50.18). Sophomore
Avital Flaishman added first-place showings in the 200 free (2:00.82) and 500 free (5:28.44).
For the IUP men, stalwarts
Athanasios Diamantidis and
Luke Mikesell combined for four individual triumphs. Diamantidis rolled to a 2:14.46 in the 200 breast before adding a win in the 100 IM (55.36). Meanwhile, Mikesell touched the wall first in the 200 free (1:43.58) and 500 free (4:46.13).
Freshman
Tyler Uhlig nabbed his first collegiate victory in the 1000 free, breezing past the rest of the field in 9:58.16. Teammates
Luke Scoboria (10:17.43) and
Eric Harter (10:40.95) rounded out second and third place for IUP.
Another freshman,
Kasha Stokes, headlines a group of three IUP finishers in the 200 back in 2:06.40. Freshman
Lilly Farmer (2:10.36) and Baldani followed in the event for the Crimson Hawks.
Junior
Emma McCombs beat out teammate
Samira Zambrano (2:20.19) in the 200 fly in 2:18.08. On the men's side, junior
Luke Ramalho was victorious in the 200 fly with a time of 2:01.13.

IUP continues a busy season-opening week on Friday, October 13 with two sessions at the Keystone Aquatics Center, beginning at 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
