Second half charge carries IUP to comeback win in home finale

INDIANA, Pa. – The IUP women's soccer team stayed the course, eventually finding three goals in the second half as part of a 3-2 rally against Edinboro on Saturday in the team's home finale.

IUP (5-8-3, 4-8-2) snapped a four-game slide with the big second half effort, which saw the game-winning goal in the 84th minute. Hannah Scardina posted four points in leading IUP, assisting on the opening two goals before adding the game-winning marker.

Scardina's assists came in the 59th minute on Avery Clanton's marker and in the 72nd minute on a tally from Taylor Serrano. It marked the first collegiate goal for Clanton and the first goal in an IUP uniform for Serrano.

Edinboro (4-8-4, 4-7-3) held a 14-10 edge in shots in the game, testing the IUP defense at times. Vanessa Berlin made eight saves in just under 86 minutes of action for the Hawks, allowing IUP to battle back in the game.

Jenna Jackson opened the scoring with a rebound finish in the 25th minute, accounting for the lone goal of the opening half. The Hawks responded for a 2-1 lead in the second half on goals from Clanton and Serrano, both assisted by Scardina.

Emily Vogel fired home her eighth goal of the season, tying the score at two for the Fighting Scots in the 82nd minute. Scardina secured the victory for IUP with a goal in the 84th minute.
