IUP women play to scoreless draw at California (Pa.)

CALIFORNIA, Pa. — IUP women's soccer got another strong effort from goalie Vanessa Berlin, playing to a scoreless draw against California (Pa.) on Halloween night in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action.

Cal U (2-12-3, 1-11-3) held a slight edge in shots at 10-8 and corners at 3-1 as part of a defensive struggle. Berlin logged six saves on the night for IUP (5-8-4, 4-8-3), while her counterpart Emily Ouimet made five stops on a crisp night.

Hannah Scardina posted four of IUP's eight shots with Julia Csernyik and Maddy Orr posting two apiece. The Crimson Hawks entered the night just outside of the PSAC West playoff picture as Seton Hill locked up its positioning for the fourth and final playoff spot after a 3-0 victory earlier in the day against Clarion.

SHU now has 19 points heading into the regular season finale on Friday, while IUP is mathematically eliminated from the conference tournament with 15 points.

Scardina hit the crossbar in the 38th minute before forcing Ouiment into a save just seconds later. Csernyik pushed a chance high in the 44th minute.

Cal U had several looks in the early stages in the second half with Berlin repelling three shots in a five-minute window. Csernyik ripped the last chance for either side in the 85th minute as Ouimet collected her fifth stop of the night.
