INDIANA, Pa. – The IUP field hockey program made a final push but could not break through in a 2-0 defeat at the hands of ninth-ranked Bloomsburg on Saturday night at a cool Miller Stadium.
After a slow start to the game for both sides, Bloomsburg (9-3, 2-3) netted a goal each in the second and third quarters. IUP (6-4, 3-2) titled the field and pressed offensively to battle back in the fourth quarter but could not connect despite some quality looks.
IUP held a 14-8 edge in shots and an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal. Jackie Nevel came up with eight saves for the Huskies in securing the shutout, complementing goals from Sam Schaffer and Aydan McFarland.
Anita Planella and
Brooke Eberly made a save each in cage for IUP. The Crimson Hawks peppered 10 of the team's 14 shots over the final 15 minutes alone.
Jess Davidson posted four shots on the night with
Roos van Herel added three more attempts for IUP.
Aubree Dorsey racked up a game-high five shots, including a slick dodge in the fourth quarter that led to a top-notch scoring look.
The Hawks were awarded 11 penalty corners on the night.
