INDIANA, Pa. – The IUP men's and women's swimming & diving teams cruised to victories against Washington & Jefferson on Saturday as part of the Ralph Johnson Invitational, hosted inside the Pidgeon Natatorium.
Serving as the home opener for the 2023-24 season, IUP racked up a 173-28 win on the women's side and a 169-43 victory in the men's meet. The Crimson Hawks posted first-place finishes in 23 of the 24 total events against the Presidents.
IUP received strong contributions from throughout the lineup in the victory, which included eight relay victories. The women's 200 medley relay grouping of
Katie Crosscut,
Summer Esson and
Amber Baldani opened the meet with a victory in 1:53.22, before the men's trio of
Alexander Roth, Joey Pieklo and
Andrew Taylor followed suit with a first0olace time of 1:37.92.
The Hawks claimed the initial three places in the opening relay events. From there,
Avital Flaishman posted a PSAC qualifying mark of 2:00.09 in the 200 free, headlining the top three IUP finishers in the event. IUP received three more PSAC marks in the men's 200 free with
Stephen Goff (1:46.27),
Luke Scoboria (1:47.69) and
Adam Morrison (1:49.46) claiming the top three spots.
Chris Scoboria added a PSAC qualifying mark of his own for IUP, coming in the 50 free (22.57). Esson and
Amber Baldani claimed the initial two spots in the 200 IM, logging PSAC times of 2:14.06 and 2:14.27, respectively.
Andrew Taylor claimed a conference qualifying time in the 200 IM on the men's side in first with a 1:58.57.
Lillian Farmer led a pack of IUP finishers in the 100 free in 55:45, while
Luke Mikesell (47.19; PSAC), Roth (48.81; PSAC) and
Julien Dampenon (51.82) paced the finishers in the men's 100 free.
Kasha Stokes and
Jordan Crupie touched the wall first and second for IUP in the 100 back, while Scoboria,
Eric Harter and
Adam Morrison rolled to the top three spots in the men's 500 free.
Stokes,
Taylor Peoples and Farmer rolled to first in the 200 free relay with a 1:42.15 and Taylor,
Luke Ramalho and Scoboria mimicked the result for the men in 1:28.49.
Nicholas Roddy and
Jeremiah Laslavic claimed the top two spots for the Hawks in the 1 mtr dive and 3 mtr dive.
