IUP swimming & diving splits competitive dual meet with Gannon

INDIANA, Pa. -- With both dual meets coming down to the final relay, the IUP swimming & diving teams split the program's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opener against Gannon on Saturday at Pidgeon Natatorium.
 
The IUP men secured a 152-141 victory against Gannon, while the women's program fell 149-147. Overall, IUP posted wins in 20 of 32 total events and combined for 39 PSAC qualifying marks.

IUP snapped a four-meet slide to the Godlen Knights on the men's side dating back to 2021 with the victory. 
 
Luke Mikesell was part of four total wins on the day, two individual and two relay victories. Mikesell opened the meet as the anchor leg in the 200 medley relay (1:35.34), logging individual wins and PSAC standards in the 200 free (1:42.36) and 500 free (4:40.97). Mikesell closed the meet as the anchor leg in the decisive 400 free relay (3:09.70).
 
Kasha Stokes had four wins of her own in a similar fashion with two individual victories while joining in on two relay wins. Stokes led off the victorious 200 medley relay (1:49.52), the first event of the afternoon. She added first-place showings with PSAC standards in the 100 back (58.67) and 200 back (2:09.88) before finishing a successful day with a win in the 400 free relay (3:42.56).
 
Stokes and Miksell have each won PSAC Swimmer of the Week honors this season for IUP.
 
Tyler Uhlig took first in the 1000 free with a PSAC mark of 9:45.15, logging second in the 100 back (54.16) behind teammate Alexander Roth (53.48). Erin Moyer nabbed first in the 100 breast with a PSAC time of 1:07.49, following it up with a win in the 200 breast with a PSAC time of 2:27.83.
 
Athanasios Diamantidis joined Mikesell, Roth and Andrew Taylor as part of the victorious 200 medley relay before posting a win in the 100 breast (58.77) with a PSAC standard. Diamantidis added a second-place finish in a close race as part of the 200 breast (2:10.01). Amber Baldani held on for a win in the 200 IM with a 2:15.16 before the final relays of the dual.
 
Tina Cudina claimed first in the 50 free (25.39) and 100 free (55.76), part of a strong showing in the sprint events for the Crimson Hawks.  Jordyn Burkey and Jeremiah Laslavic won the 3 mtr diving portion of the meet with scores of 170.10 and 248.0, respectively.
