GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Indiana University of Pennsylvania softball program matched the Lady Pioneers in the hit column (7-7) but GSU scored four more on the scoreboard to hand IUP its first defeat, 6-2.
Â
Tess Smiley and
Madeline Miller were the two run producers with an RBI single apiece.
Â
Paige Truax reached base twice via a walk and a single, stole a base then promptly scored to open the scoring for the Crimson and White.
Â
Jaycee Haidze shone brightly both on the mound and at the plate, being the only lady to log multiple hits (2-for-3) before pitching the final 3.2 innings of the ballgame with a spotless line, constantly working her way out of jams with three strikeouts and a single hit given up despite four free passes.
Â
Madison Pikula came on as a pinch runner for Haidze in the final frame and came around to score on Miller's base knock.
Â
Indiana (Pa.) will wrap up its season opening weekend tournament in the Mountain State versus Fairmont State at 3 p.m. and West Virginia State at 5:30 p.m.
