ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Indiana University of Pennsylvania baseball program tied the ballgame with two runs in the top of the eighth but a bases loaded, 3-RBI double by the Tritons' Michael Ballard in the bottom half spoiled the comeback as the Crimson Hawks fell, 6-3.
Elijah Dunn was the provider of the game-tying, two-run double down the right field line in the eighth and was inches away from giving IUP the lead as
Torrey Roper tried to score all the way from first on the play but a perfect 9-2 relay from the right fielder nabbed him at the plate.
Roper reached base safely three times versus Eckerd pitching, once on a single and twice on ball four while nabbing a pair of bases.
Derrick Shields got the start on the evening, hurling 5.2 innings and a season-high six strikeouts with just one earned run given up.
Markus Cestra drove home
Brady Yard on a fielding error by the center fielder and both
David Kessler as well as
Branden Kanick all crossed the dish.
