IUP women battle No. 21 St. Mary’s, weather on Wednesday

SATELLITE BEACH, Fla. – IUP women's tennis endured a rain delay and another tough opponent, dropping another close matchup by a 4-3 count against 21st-ranked St. Mary's (Texas) on Wednesday in Florida.

Five of six singles matchups required a deciding third set in a competitive dual. IUP (1-7) surrendered the doubles point and nearly made up for it in singles action against a ranked foe.

Natalie Kmoskova held off Angela Vargas for a victory in number two singles, jumping ahead 6-4 in the first set and later using a 6-4 victory in the third set to clinch the matchup. Joanna Stralka used some strong play in the final set for a 6-4, 2-6 and 6-4 win at the No. 3 singles position.

Lydia Vlachou held on for a marathon victory at No. 5 singles to finish out the day, defeating Kyndall Quiroz. Vlachou won 6-3 in the opening set before Quiroz leveled the match score with a 6-2 win in the second set. Vlachou eventually clinched the third set by a 7-6 count following a tiebreaker.

The No. 2 doubles pairing of Kmoskova and Stralka breezed to a 6-2 win against the Rattlers' Bailey Godwin and Vargas.
