CLERMONT, Fla. – The Indiana University of Pennsylvania softball program celebrated its first walk-off of the season by beating the Purple Knights courtesy of a game-winning RBI single by
Jordan Sylvia in the eighth then using eight runs over the final three frames to upend the Chargers to win both ballgames Thursday, 4-3 and 9-5.
Jordan Sylvia was the unquestioned hero of game one, not once but twice, driving in the game-tying run in the sixth with an RBI-triple before ending the contest with an RBI-single in the eighth. Her stat line also included a pair of walks and one more ribbie in the latter matchup.
Bella Bucy was bestowed the rare honor of earning a pitching win in both games of a doubleheader, combining for 5.1 innings in relief where she allowed just one run, striking out five UNH hitters and walking zero.
Lexi Dawson had herself a big day, hitting .500 (3-for-6) with three RBIs, two walks, and one run scored on top of a sacrifice fly plus a double.
Paige Truax was an absolute menace to opposing defenses and pitching staffs, reaching base safely seven times, four courtesy of singles and three via walks, crossed the plate a quartet of times, and swiped three bases.
Finally,
Delaney Patella brought around three IUP baserunners to score and coaxed a trio of free passes in the opening contest.
The Crimson Hawks get to have one more day in paradise on Wednesday, facing American International at 10 a.m. and concluding with Bloomsburg at 12:30 p.m. in Sleepy Hollow.
