INDIANA, Pa. – The Indiana University of Pennsylvania softball program's
Tori Long came one batter short of a perfect game in the nightcap, surrendering a single to Cheyenne Shughart in the fourth inning as her lone blemish in an 8-0 victory in six.
Â
The freshman from Columbiana, Ohio went the distance, setting a career-low with zero walks and the one base knock given up, sitting down five Scots in the process.
Â
Delaney Patella was her own version of perfect at the plate, going 6-for-6 (1.000) while driving in four runs, scoring three times, homering twice, and doubling once while also reaching a seventh time via a walk.
Â
Amanda Fischer was impressive in the circle and the square, pitching four innings of three-run ball (one earned) with no walks on top of a three-run blast that gave her side a 4-2 lead in the second frame of the first contest.
Â
The fact that
Jordan Sylvia won the opener with a walk-off double and logged three RBIs on the afternoon yet was the fourth person mentioned in the recap shows just how special of a day the Crimson Hawks had.
Â
The trio of
Allyssa Schmidt,
Lexi Dawson, and
Paige Truax all had multi-hit contests in the game two rout, combining to hit .545 (6-of-11) with five runs scored, three ribbies, Â two steals plus a double in the nightcap alone.
Â
The ladies from IUP will attempt to keep its overall record (13-12) and elevate its PSAC mark (4-4) over .500 on Sunday afternoon in Erie, Pennsylvania versus Mercyhurst.
