BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – IUP women's lacrosse battled back in a game of runs, unable to get over the top in the fourth quarter, falling 11-10 to Bloomsburg on Saturday afternoon.
IUP (1-1) found the net six times in the fourth quarter, getting to within one goal on four occasions over the final 15 minutes. In a relatively even game statistically, IUP held the edge in shots by a 30-25 margin.
Bloomsburg (3-0) seemingly had an answer throughout the game, taking the lead on a stretch of four unanswered that spanned the end of the second quarter and start of the third. From there, the Huskies did not trail again despite multiple rallies from IUP.
Sarah Reustle posted five goals, three ground balls, three caused turnovers and three draw controls in another all-around effort for IUP.
Emme Mass and
Alexi Crosby cashed in on two goals apiece, while
Kathryn Burke logged three points on a goal and two assists.
Rylee Wilson posted four draw controls and
Leah Moyer added an assist, three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Annie Rollins, Julia Cote, Kate Roberts and Amanda Stoll all fired in two goals apiece for the balanced Huskies. Lauren Foley racked up 15 saves in goal, playing all 60 minutes in the victory between he pipes.
IUP opened the game with a 2-1 lead through the first, later surrendering four goals in the second quarter, heading into the half down by one. Resutle found the net twice in the opening half, while Crosby and Burke added one each.
The Huskies used a stretch of two unanswered goals in the third quarter for a 7-4 lead before IUP responded with two consecutive markers in the fourth, getting back within one at 7-6. Reustle notched both of those tallies for IUP, halting the Bloomsburg surge.
Bloomsburg eventually countered back with two consecutive tallies of its own in the fourth at 11:45 and 10:59, stretching the lead to 9-6 with around 11 minutes remaining.
Despite notching four of the game's final six goals, IUP was unable to work the game tied or take the lead in the second half. Mass converted on a play-down goal with just 1:27 remaining, bringing the Hawks within 11-10.
Chantal Jimenez snared the ensuing draw control before Stoll forced an IUP turnover to seal the game.
