WILMINGTON, Del. – IUP women's tennis nabbed its fourth consecutive victory, opening up the weekend road trip to Delaware with a 4-3 triumph against No. 32 Wilmington on Saturday at Delcastle Tennis Center.
IUP moves to 5-8 overall, continuing to build momentum heading into the heart of the conference schedule. Meanwhile, IUP handed 32nd-ranked Wilmington (16-1) its first dual loss of the season.
The Crimson Hawks clinched the decisive doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles before using a strong start in singles action in the victory.
Natalie Kmoskova and
Joanna Stralka reeled off a 6-2 win at the No. 2 flight before
Idoia Huerta and
Lydia Vlachou closed out the doubles point with their 6-4 victory at the No. 3 spot.
From there, both sides split singles action, picking up three victories apiece. Stralka continued her strong play of late with a 6-0, 6-1 victory against Jessica Purdy at the three spot.
Karolin Kirchtag followed it up with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 1 singles for IUP.
Vlachou clinched the match for the Crimson Hawks with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles, giving IUP a 4-0 lead. Wilmington answered back with wins in the number two, four and six singles slots.
