Baseball Splits Two Low-Scoring Battles With Vulcans

Brian Baublitz Jr.

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Indiana University of Pennsylvania baseball program battled its PSAC West and geographical rivals of CUP (California-PA) inside the spacious confines of Wild Things Park on Friday, taking game one with a shutout (1-0) and dropping game two (4-3) as both sides failed to get much offense going.

Jeremiah Williams and Paul Tripi combined to shut down and shut out the Vulcans in the opener, with Williams going the first six for his second dub while Tripi faced the minimum while striking out a pair in the seventh for his first career save. The two hurlers surrendered just five hits, striking out an equal amount and striking walking nobody.

After starting the year winning his first four decisions, Mark Edeburn has dropped his past two despite a strong showing of two earned runs (four total) to go along with three Ks.

IUP cranked out four doubles and two triples with five different student-athletes notching one.

Elijah Dunn was the outlier, smacking a single, double, and triple with two RBIs on top of scoring the team's only run of game one.

Markus Cestra and David Kessler drove home one ribbie apiece as Kessler's came on a two-bagger.

Andrew Sicinski picked up three base knocks on the day with one double mixed in while Torrey Roper went 2-for-3 including a two-bagger and a score in game two.

The Crimson Hawks and Vulcans will square off once again on campus this time, starting the doubleheader at 1 p.m. in Indiana on Saturday.
