INDIANA, Pa. – The Indiana University of Pennsylvania baseball program rode the bat of
Markus Cestra to each of its six runs over the 13 frames played on Saturday but still fell shy of CUP both times, 7-5 in seven and 6-1 in a rain soaked, game two shortened six innings.
Â
Cestra went off in game one, tying a career-best with five RBIs and notching his first career multi-homer ballgame of his now 163-contest career at IUP. The Pittsburgh native hit .667 (4-of-6) for both a three-run and a two-run bomb, totaling six runs batted in, two runs scored plus a base on balls.
Â
Au'sean Owens joined his teammate in registering a multi-hit game, scoring the nightcap's only run.
Â
Derrick Shields had a great performance but was on the losing end, striking out a tied for campaign-high six hitters with one earned run (four total) and a walk in 4.2 frames.
Â
Davin Landers reached during all three plate appearances and proceeded to score on two of them, walking twice and doubling once.
Â
Harrison Pontoli also doubled with a pair of free passes while
Peyton Johnson had a run scored plus a two-bagger.
Â
Jimmy Tooley fanned five Vulcans over 5.1 innings, walking one and giving up three earned runs.
Â
The men from Indiana (PA) will partake in a non-conference single game showdown at Wheeling on Tuesday at 3 p.m. in Wheeling, West Virginia.
