SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Indiana University of Pennsylvania baseball program picked up a pair of crucial divisional wins on the road Sunday afternoon as the IUP posted back-to-back shutouts of The Rock for a doubleheader sweep, 6-0 and 5-0.
Mark Edeburn keeps his unblemished record in 2023, tossing a complete game shutout of seven innings of two-hit work, allowing zero walks, and striking out four en route to his fourth win of the year in game two.
Not to be overshadowed were the game one pitching duo of
Jeremiah Williams (3-1) and
Paul Tripi, who combined to cede just four hits and one walk while Williams displayed filthy pitches that rewarded him with a career-best nine Ks.
Davin Landers went 3-for-6 (.500) against SRU, driving home
Peyton Johnson on a two-run blast and scoring twice.
Markus Cestra led the Hawks on the day with three RBIs on a two-RBI single plus a sacrifice fly to go along with scoring and walking once each.
Torrey Roper displayed his great plate vision, drawing a trio of walks and crossing the plate two times on top of a Ribbie.
Harrison Pontoli did a little bit of everything for Indiana (PA), notching three hits including a two-bagger, knocking in a pair of runners, touching the plate twice himself, and coaxing a free pass.
Johnson and
Elijah Dunn both collected one hit apiece, both smacking doubles.
The Crimson Hawks will play Slippery Rock once again on Monday inside Owen J. Dougherty Field at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. as they look to keep the winning train on the tracks.
