INDIANA, Pa. – The Indiana University of Pennsylvania softball program was the designated road team in their own ballpark on Friday afternoon, but it did not matter as the Crimson Hawks snapped a nine-game streak without more than five runs scored in a single game twice during 7-1 and 11-2 victories.
Â
Delaney Patella finally got pitches to hit once again and she delivered, "doubling" her season totals for two-baggers in one day alone as she piled up four doubles to give the freshman eighth on the year. Patella led the ladies with a .625 batting average (5-for-8), five hits, four doubles, and four RBIs while also scoring three times and walking once.
Â
Bella Bucy shut down the Scots in the circle, pitching a complete game five-hitter while limiting Edinboro to a single run and one walk, striking out two. She swung the bat nearly as well as she missed the opponents', going 3-for-4 (.750) and falling a triple shy of the cycle while connecting for her first career home run, a two-RBI jack.
Â
Allyssa Schmidt also tagged EU pitching for multiple doubles (2), smacking three hits that drove in two ribbies.
Â
Tori Long (3.0 IP) and
Elizabeth Kasper (2.0 IP) held down the fort in an offensive second game, combining to hold the "home nine" to just six baserunners (five hits, one walk) and two runs (one earned), with Long contributing both Ks.
Â
Madison Pikula ran wild on the afternoon, crossing the dish four times, stealing two bases, tying Patella for the hits (5) and average (.625) lead, doubling, and driving in a pair.
Â
Senior Day approaches next on the calendar for IUP this Sunday when the squad hosts Mercyhurst at 1 and 3 p.m. as it recognizes the senior twins, Faith, and
Hope Jones.
