Big Sixth Helps Huskies Outlast Crimson Hawks

INDIANA, Pa. – The Indiana University of Pennsylvania baseball program's midweek matchup saw most of its action in the middle innings with Bloomsburg playing all of its runs, including a five-run sixth, and IUP notching five between the third and sixth frames as the Huskies held on for a 10-8 decision.

The home nine was able to land 11 hits on the board but most of it involved playing station-to-station as just one went for extra bases, a Peyton Johnson RBI-double to kickoff the scoring in the first.

Johnson was raking at the plate, notching a team-high three hits on top of two ribbies, and a run scored.

Torrey Roper brought home three Hawks on two singles while scoring once to lead all game participants.

Zach Miller excelled in the art of small ball Tuesday, driving in one on a sacrifice fly while also singling and stealing the club's only base.

Patrick Apgar gave the team a chance late as he surrendered just one walk in 2.1 innings out of the bullpen with three punchouts.

The two veterans of the lineup, Harrison Pontoli and Markus Cestra each crossed the plate twice, combining to hit .333 (3-for-9) as Pontoli added a walk plus an RBI to the line.

With the non-conference schedule now complete, IUP will look to lock down its spot in the conference tournament over the final eight contests, beginning with Community/Senior Day versus Mercyhurst at 1 and 3:30 p.m. on Thursday in Indiana.
