Miller’s Grand Slam, Two Big Innings Enough To Beat Pitt-Johnstown

Brian Baublitz Jr.

INDIANA, Pa. – The Indiana University of Pennsylvania softball program used a pair of crooked number innings in the first of game one (7 runs) and the fourth in game two (4 runs) to keep piling up the victories, winning their eighth and ninth in-a-row at 11-9 and 4-3.

Madeline Miller only has one hit in four at-bats but it was one of the biggest blows all season, unloading the bases with a grand slam to give the Hawks a 5-0 first inning lead as part of its huge seven-run opening frame.

Delaney Patella was a star, what else is new? She went 4-for-7 (.571) with four RBIs, three runs scored and blasting her sixth career round-tripper, a two-run shot.

Bella Bucy got the win in game two and combined to pitch four scoreless frames, striking out the same amount of Panthers (3) than she allowed to reach (3).

Lexi Dawson, Paige Truax, and Jordan Sylvia all had multi-hit outings in one of the two contests, batting .500 (9-of-18) on top of a steal, a double, five runs, three RBIs plus two walks between them.

IUP had a chance to hit double-figures on its white hot winning streak on Saturday at Seton Hill with the first pitch of the doubleheader set for 1 p.m. in Greensburg.
