Resilient IUP drops hard-fought matchup at Slippery Rock

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Despite battling back with goals on two occasions, the IUP women's soccer team fell 3-2 to Slippery Rock in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) divisional action on Saturday.

Hannah Scardina found the net twice for IUP (1-2-1, 1-2-0), once on a penalty kick marker and again before the first half expired. Meanwhile, Slippery Rock (4-2-0, 3-1-0) benefitted from some fortuitous bounces in the opening half, notching three goals.

Sydney Patrick opened the scoring with a great effort for SRU, slotting a corner into the opposite side of the net just under one minute into the contest. Scardina cashed in on the penalty kick chance in the 17th minute, knotting the score at one.

SRU posted two shots that found the goal, caroming off IUP defenders in the 20th and 43rd minutes, regaining the lead over the Crimson Hawks at 3-1. IUP did not go quietly, however, finding the back of the next just before the expiration of the opening half.

Scardina notched her third goal of the season, rounding out the scoring on the afternoon.

SRU held a 14-9 edge in shots, but goalkeeper Vanessa Berlin registered six saves over 90 minutes of action. Scardina finished the day with five shot attempts, including three on goal.
