IUP blanks Seton Hill in 2-0 road victory

GREENSBURG, Pa. – The IUP women's soccer team scored a goal in each half and turned in a shutout defensively in a 2-0 victory against Seton Hill on Wednesday in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action.

IUP (2-2-1, 2-2) got back to the .500 mark in conference play behind goals from Hannah Scardina and Maddy Orr. Taylor Serrano and Emma Hays assisted on the markers, which came in the 39th and 87th minutes.

Vanessa Berlin logged five saves, including some key stops early that kept the game scoreless, in the Hawks' first shutout victory of the season. Seton Hill (2-3-1, 1-3-1) had some quality looks early in the match as chances continued into the second half.

IUP held a 6-5 advantage in shots on goal while thwarting off nine SHU corner kick opportunities. Scardina got the scoring started on a turning shot from a ball played in by Serrano along the left side of the box.

It marked the second consecutive game with a goal for Scardina, posting her team-leading fourth goal of the season.

SHU looked to equalize early in the second half as Berlin logged saves in the 48th and 53rd minutes. Elle Smith had consecutive chances in the 57th and 58th minutes for IUP.

Orr provided IUP with some insurance in the 87th minute, playing a long ball behind a defender and finishing for a 2-0 lead. Hays recorded her second assist of the season on the goal.
