IUP falls to second-ranked Shippensburg on Sunday

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The IUP field hockey team dropped a road matchup to second-ranked Shippensburg, 3-0, at a soggy Robb Sports Complex on Sunday.
 
In an even matchup statistically, IUP (3-2) recorded 10 shots in the game, including four in the final 15 minutes. Shippensburg (4-2) accounted for all of its scoring in the first half.
 
IUP had a pair of early chances blocked within the opening three minutes of the contest from Jess Davidson and Lauren Horning. Shippensburg countered with the opening goal around five minutes in as Yasmin De Meyer netted her third goal of the season.
 
Anita Planella denied a penalty stroke chance by Agus Garibaldi at the 12:35 mark of the opening quarter. The Raiders notched a pair of goals in the second quarter, increasing the lead to 3-0 heading into the intermission.
 
Davidson had the lone shot for either side early in the third quarter, a chance saved by Shippensburg goalie Emma Albee. The Hawks also had chances at the onset of the fourth quarter, unable to place the chances on cage.
 
Brooke Eberly kept a clean sheet over the final 30 minutes of the game in the second half, seeing her first action in goal during the 2023 season.
