CARLISLE, Pa. – Opening up what promises to be a busy weekend at the Keystone Aquatics Center, the IUP swimming teams returned to action for the first time in 2024 in dual meet action against Bloomsburg on Friday afternoon.
IUP fell short in both dual meets, falling 113-90 on the men's side and 111-92 in the women's dual. The Crimson Hawks had several quality swims in the dual, finishing with nine first-place finishes.
IUP posted 33 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifying marks in the dual, including 19 for the women's squad and 14 for the men.
Luke Mikesell recorded a pair of individual wins and two runner-up showings in the relay events on Friday.
Mikesell opened the meet with a win in the 200 free (1:41.60; PSAC) before nabbing first in the 500 free (4:38.41; PSAC). Mikesell finished ahead of
Tyler Uhlig in the 500 free (4:39.27; PSAC), who finished out a victory in the 50 back in 24.31.
Summer Esson continued her strong season with another victory, this one coming in the 200 IM with a PSAC mark of 2:09.81.
Jordan Crupie and
Tina Cudina added victories in the sprint events for the Crimson Hawk women, posting triumphs in the 50 back (27.37) and the 50 breast (30.44) respectively.
Stephen Goff sent IUP into a break on a high note with a PSAC mark in the 21.42 for first overall.
Athanasios Diamantidis put together an impressive race in the 50 breast, winning by almost a full second with a 26.19 time.
The IUP women showcased outstanding depth in the 500 free, recording four PSAC qualifying standards in the event after claiming the number two through five spots.
Avital Flaishman paced the pack finish for IUP in second with a 5:19.29, followed by
Olivia Santee (5:19.84),
Parker Fanella (5:23.66) and
Kiera-Veronica Scudder (5:27.88) in the distance event.
