No. 24 IUP women’s Soccer edges Pitt Johnstown 3-2

Indiana, Pa. – IUP (8-1-3, 6-1-3) women's soccer continues their win streak tonight with a 3-2 victory over Pitt Johnstown (6-5-2, 4-5-2).

The game started out slow for the Crimson Hawks and the Mountain Cats, with neither team taking a shot until 18 minutes into the game. IUP's first shot of the game resulted in a goal by Emily Mannion, with an assist by Hannah Scardina, 35 minutes into the contest. This goal placed Mannion at third on the leader board for team goals.

Johnstown did not let the Crimson Hawks hold the lead for long, with Katelyn Rudy answering with a goal of her own just shy of two minutes into the second half. After the goal from Johnstown, each team went back into hibernation for another 20 minutes. At minute 75, IUP's freshman Kat Morgan scored her first collegiate goal against the Mountain Cats, clocking an assist for Elle Smith.. The celebration continued for the Crimson Hawks, when less than two minutes later, Hannah Scardina scored her fifth goal of the season, set from Ayla Ward, increasing IUP's lead to 3-1.

Pitt Johnstown did not let IUP get off as easily as anticipated. With two minutes left in the game, the Mountain Cats had a shot that Makenna Yarrow tipped away from the net with the edge of her fingertips. Without this essential save, Johnstown would have tied the score following their last shot of the game, seconds after Yarrow's save.  Johnstown's Nicole Hawk scored their second goal of the game, capitalizing off of a corner kick. Despite the relentless offense from the Mountain Cats, IUP's Yarrow registered five saves, increasing her total to 52 saves for the season.
