CLARION, Pa. – Although both the women's and men's team dropped to Clarion this evening, 33 swimmers and 3 divers made the PSAC / NCAA qualifying cut.
IUP women's team scored 112 and Clarion had 184, while IUP men's team scored 120 with Clarion at 179.
The women's team started off the day with a first place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:48.50), a part of the relay was
Kasha Stokes,
Tina Cudina,
Amber Baldani, and
Summer Esson. The men claimed second in the 200 medley relay (1:35.79), a part of that relay was
Alexander Roth,
Athanasios Diamantidis,
Luke Ramalho, and
Stephen Goff.
Avital Flaishman placed first in the 1000 freestyle (11:10.42) for the women while Ty Uhlig placed first in the 1000 freestyle (10:00.33) for the men. Flashman was also awarded second place in the 500 freestyle (5:28.79).
Kasha Stokes excelled in the backstroke events, finishing first in both the 100 backstroke (59.44) and the 200 backstroke (2:09.71), improving her times from earlier in the season.
IUP placed first and second in the 100 breaststroke, first place was
Tina Cudina (1:06.05) and second was
Hiba Laknit (1:10.29).
IUP dominated the 100 breaststroke, taking first and second place with
Tina Cudina finishing first (1:06.05) and
Hiba Laknit in second (1:10.29). In the 200 breaststroke, IUP swept the top three spots, with
Summer Esson (2:33.56),
Catrina Miller (2:34.16), and
Kyla Kramer (2:35.97).
Luke Mikesell had an impressive outing, winning both the 500 freestyle (4:46.46) and the 200 IM (2:00.08), while also finishing second in the 200 freestyle (1:42.72).
The divers performed well, with Nicholas Roddy and Jeremiah Laslavic achieving NCAA qualifying scores. Roddy placed second in the 11 dive 1 meter with a qualifying score of 458.7 and also took second in the 6 dive 1 meter (283.05). In the 3 meter, Laslavic secured NCAA cuts with first place in the 6 dive (320.7) and second place in the 11 dive (488.78).
Jordyn Burkey finished third in the 11 dive 1 meter (318.53) and fourth in the 6 dive 1 meter (169.95).
A quote from the coaches, "We are very happy with the overall performance and effort given by our student-athletes especially considering the challenging part of the season that they are pushing through. Both our men and women's programs are looking strong as we begin to set our sights on mid-season."
