IUP women's soccer loses first game this season

INDIANA, Pa. -- The IUP women's soccer team faced a tough loss against Edinboro on their senior day, falling 2-1 despite a strong defensive effort in the second half.

Before the match began, the team honored it's four seniors and two fifth years from the 2025 class. As follows they were, Makenna Yarrow, Andrea D'Incau, Katharina Bilz, Julia Csernyik, Hannah Scardina, and Kristen Finnerty.

The Crimson Hawks (5-1-1, 3-1-1 PSAC) out shot Edinboro (3-3-2, 3-3-0 PSAC) 8-4, with three of their shots being on goal. Notably, IUP's defense tightened up significantly after halftime, allowing only one shot on goal from Edinboro for the remainder of the game. The second half is where IUP found their footing, they recorded six shots, compared to two in the first half.

Edinboro's two goals came in the first half within a five-minute span, with Reese Enochs scoring at 24:24 and Teaghan Watkins adding another at 28:29. Both teams recorded one save per half, showcasing a competitive matchup.

Elle Smith scored IUP's lone goal at 76:01, marking her first goal of the season and her third overall. Hannah Scardina led the hawks offense with three shots, one on goal, while Avery Clanton and Smith each contributed two shots, one on goal.

Despite the loss, IUP's strong second-half performance highlights their potential as they continue to move forward with their season.
