IUP volleyball secures steady win over Edinboro

EDINBORO, Pa. – IUP (16-8, 6-4) capitalized off Edinboro's (13-10, 4-6) errors to take tonight's match in four sets. Set scores were 25-15, 19-25, 29-27, and 25-20.

Throughout the match IUP posted 52 kills, 16 aces, and 11 blocks. Leading the Hawks was Lauren Valentic with 13 kills, followed closely by Jessica Neiman with 12, and Peyton Belcher, who contributed eight.

Both Valentic and Bailey Flowerdew served five aces each, while Olivia Heidel added three aces and six blocks. Charlotte Potvin also made her mark with five blocks, and Valentic recorded a hitting percentage of .476, with Neiman at .300.

The first set began as the teams' traded points until the Hawks went on a six-point run to gain a 12-5 lead. IUP pursued a four-point run with two kills from Valentic and took advantage of Edinboro's attack errors to take set one, 25-15.

In the second set, IUP struggled at the outset, falling behind 16-6. The Hawks rallied back to put the gap at five points after a seven-point run with three straight aces from Bailey Flowerdew. Unfortunately, the Hawks could not make the jump and fell 25-19.

The third set saw a back-and-forth battle until Valentic's kill tied it at 25-25. A critical block from Neiman and Potvin positioned IUP for set point. Although Edinboro fought back to gain two points, IUP sealed the set with two kills from Neiman and Belcher, finishing it off with a service ace from Neiman.

Wrapping up the match, IUP got ahead with two kills from head Potvin and Belcher. A final spurt of kills by Neiman, several aces by Valentic, and two Edinboro error's gave IUP the match victory.
