INDIANA, Pa. -- IUP (6-3, 3-3) went on a second quarter surge to defeat Edinboro (2-6, 2-3) Saturday afternoon 35-7, at McConnell Family Stadium.
IUP presented an impressive 35-0 run after trailing in the first quarter 7-0. The Hawks amassed 460 yards of offense, while their defense racked up four sacks for a total loss of 25 yards.
Quarterback
Karst Hunter delivered a standout game, throwing for a season high of 303-yards and three touchdowns that were all connected to
Maurice Massey. Hunter completed 14 of 20 attempts, had no interceptions, and rushed for 24-yards off six attempts.
Massey had six receptions totaling 181-yards for three touchdowns and
Parker Gregg caught three for 64-yards.
JD Younger contributed to the ground game with 56 yards on 13 carries, scoring the first touchdown for IUP.
Kaleb Monaco also scored a touchdown and rushed four times for 30-yards.
Defensively, IUP limited Gannon to just three conversions on 12 third downs and allowed only one score in the first quarter.
Garrett Cox led the defense with 11 total tackles, including a sack for a six-yard loss, and had a pass break up.
Chuck Ingram posted eight total tackles and a tackle for loss.
Maurice Feazell totaled six tackles and had a sack for a seven-yard loss. A few other key players were
Logan Goodwin and
Noah Vaughan who each recorded a sack.
Kalen Frazier posted six total tackles and returned five punts with a long 45-yard return.
Nick Andrasi completed all five extra point attempts and had five kickoffs that totaled 333-yards.
Gannon scored on their first drive that consumed five minutes off the clock, claiming an early lead. Despite not scoring in the first quarter, IUP headed into the second quarter scoring touchdowns on three straight possessions.
IUP saw their first touchdown of the second quarter after a long 30-yard pass to Massey that set Younger up for a three-yard rush into the endzone.
After a quick turnover from Gannon, Hunter threw two long passes to extend IUP's lead, including a 32-yard connection to
Parker Gregg and a 38-yard touchdown pass to Massey, bringing the score to 14-7, after Andrasi's extra point was good.
Gannon had another quick turnover after a
Noah Vaughan sack and two incomplete passes.
Frazier returned the punt for 45-yards to the GAN 32 putting IUP in excellent field position. Another 20-yard completed pass to Gregg positioned IUP at the GAN 9. Monaco rushed for four yards into the endzone for their third touchdown of the quarter.
After halftime, IUP's first drive resulted in a
Tyjier Williams fumble and the ball was recovered by Gannon, however the Golden Knights were forced to punt after being unable to convert a third down.
Hunter had a few short passes and a seven-yard rush himself to position the Hawks at the IUP 33.
Marcus Day caught a 15-yard pass followed by a 52-yard deep pass to Massey walking 10-yards into the endzone. Followed by Andrasi's successful kick, the Hawks extended their lead to 28-7.
IUP found the endzone one more time after another 38-yarder to Massey early on in the fourth quarter.

IUP will have a bye the next weekend, concluding the 2024 season against Shippensburg at Miller Stadium Saturday, November 16. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
