IUP ranked fourth in PSAC Dixon Trophy standings following fall sports

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. -- The IUP department of athletics ranks fourth in the 2024-25 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Dixon Trophy standings, released Wednesday.

Released through the fall sports season, IUP is fifth among conference schools in men's sports with an average of 11.83, while the women's teams slot tied for seventh in the league with an average of 10.63. Overall, IUP boasts an average of 11.14 through the fall seasons, ranking fourth among PSAC West schools.

The Dixon Trophy is awarded at the end of each academic year to the league's most successful program based on conference playoff and/or regular-season finishes. Standings are compiled based on the average score for all PSAC championship sports each school sponsors. Equal to its total membership, each conference sport champion is awarded 17 points, and a descending point value is given for respective place finishes. The second-through last-place values vary depending on the number of teams that sponsor the sport.

The IUP men's cross country team pleased third with 15 points after third place finish in this year's PSAC Championship. Football tied for fifth (10.5) and golf grabbed fourth with 10 points.

The IUP women's volleyball program notched first place with 17 points after being named the 2024 PSAC Champions. Women's soccer tied for third place after making a PSAC Tournament appearance. Field hockey had five points and women's cross country added eight.

Gannon claims first place through the fall sports season with 13.21 points. Defending champion East Stroudsburg sits in second (12.86), Kuztown grabbed third (11.75), followed by IUP, and Slippery Rock with 10.93 points to round out the top five.

Introduced in the 1995-96 academic year, the award is named in honor of F. Eugene Dixon, Jr., former chairman of Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education's Board of Governors. Since then, nine PSAC institutions have claimed the Dixon Trophy. Shippensburg leads the conference with eight victories, followed by West Chester's five. Lock Haven and Bloomsburg have three titles apiece, while California, Gannon, and Slippery Rock follow with two victories. Kutztown and Millersville have each won once.

The next update of the Dixon Trophy standings will be released following the conclusion of the PSAC's winter championship season in early March.
