The IUP softball team is back in action against a slew of opponents from the Mountain east Conference this week. The Crimson Hawks host West Liberty for a doubleheader on Wednesday in Indiana before heading south for four games over the weekend in the Sue Morris Complex Classic at Glenville State.
IUP rolled to a doubleheader sweep of Wheeling to open the season back on February 15. The Crimson Hawks combined for 31 runs over the two wins, coming by scores of 12-3 and 19-8.
Jess Cekada led a well-rounded offensive charge for IUP in the opening games of the season, going a combined 6-for-7 (.857) with two home runs, one double and five RBI.

Kendall Young settled in for a strong outing in her collegiate debut.
Elizabeth Kasper fired 2.2 innings of relief in game two against the Cardinals, allowing just two hits in that span.

IUP looks to officially lock up a spot in the upcoming PSAC Women's Basketball Tournament with a win on Wednesday against Seton Hill. The midweek matchup is one of two games for the Crimson Hawks this week, heading to Slippery Rock on Saturday.
Nyshae' Weaver collected PSAC West Athlete of the Week honors, averaging a double-double in two divisional wins last week for the Crimson Hawks. She posted 10.0 points, 15.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals while shooting 61.5% from the field, helping IUP to wins against Pitt-Johnstown and Edinboro. Another closely contested matchup with the Fighting Scots,
Rahmena Henderson drove in for the game-winning basket with just 0.1 seconds left.
Entering the week, the PSAC West has just one team (Ganon) that has locked up a playoff berth. Spots two through seven are separated by just four games.

Fresh off divisional wins against Pitt-Johnstown and Edinboro last week, IUP looks to continue rounding into playoff form with a pair of games this week.
Ethan Porterfield continues his torrid stretch, named the PSAC West Athlete of the Week on February 19. Last week he averaged 34.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, one steal and one block and continued climbing up the IUP all-time records.
Porterfield and
Garvin Clarke have been a dynamic duo over the past few weeks, helping IUP clinch a berth in the PSAC Tournament. Porterfield fired in another career high of 35 points, surpassing 1,800 in his career. Meanwhile, Clarke was involved across the board once again for the Hawks, posting 21 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists.
The Hawks kept Edinboro at bay in a 75-67 victory, entering the week third in the PSAC West with a 13-5 league mark.
