GREENSBURG, Pa. – The IUP women's tennis program returned to action for the first time in 2024, beginning the dual meet portion of the schedule with a narrow 5-4 setback to Carnegie Mellon on Saturday afternoon at the Greensburg Racquet Club.
CMU, ranked 11th in the DIII ITA poll, posted the 5-4 victory with each doubles point playing into the scoring.
Veronica Sirci had a strong debut for the Crimson Hawks, joining
Hannah Beitat for an 8-2 victory in No. 3 doubles.
Lydia Vlachou and
Katy Graydon moved to 7-1 overall as a pairing on the season with an 8-4 victory at the No. 2 flight against Zoe Angell and Anna Chow. Graydon later added an extended singles victories in scores of 0-6, 7-5, 7-5.
Vlachou notched a three-set win in singles action of her own, coming at the No. 4 flight by scores of 4-6, 6-1, 6-4.
Alexis Cramer fell just short at No. 6 singles, dropping a decision to Elaine Qian by scores of 2-6, 6-1, 3-6.
