LAKELAND, Fla. – The No. 48 IUP women's tennis team dropped a competitive 4-3 decision against No. 46 Texas A&M Kingsville on Tuesday at Florida Southern's Wynee Warden Tennis Center.
IUP drops to 4-4 in dual matches, enduring a second consecutive setback against a ranked foe. Meanwhile, Texas A&M Kingsville moves to 6-2 on the season after winning four singles matches to secure the victory.
IUP swept doubles play for an early 1-0 margin.
Veronica Sirci and
Hannah Beitat began the day with a 6-2 victory at the No. 3 flight.
In a matchup of two nationally-ranked doubles tandems,
Ming Deewajee and
Dani Ramos rolled past Alessa Maier and Milou ter Morsche with a 6-1 victory. Dewajee and Ramos entered the match ranked No. 22 in doubles action, with the Texas A&M Kingsville duo slotted 26th nationally.
Katy Graydon and
Lydia Vlachou continued their success at No. 2 doubles, battling for a hard-earned 7-6 victory for the Crimson Hawks.
In singles play, Sirci notched her second win of the day with a 6-3, 6-1 effort at the No. 5 flight. Ramos continued the momentum with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles against Luna Jokanovic.
Texas A&M Kingsville took control from there, winning the final four matches of the contest. Dewagee fell just short to Alessa Maier, the number six ranked singles player in DII, with scores of 3-6, 6-4, 4-6.
