INDIANA, Pa. — IUP senior guard
Rahmena Henderson was named to the 2023-24 Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) All-Atlantic Region Second Team, announced Thursday.
The announcement came as IUP was practicing in West Virginia ahead of the team's 2024 NCAA DII Atlantic Region matchup against Fayetteville State in West Virginia. This year's regional is split between hosts sites Gannon and Fairmont State, with action getting underway on Friday, March 15.
Gannon's Sam Pirosko repeated as the D2CCA Atlantic Region Player of the Year. Joining Pirosko on the 2023-24 All-Atlantic Region First Team are Aniylah Bryant (Fayetteville
State), Alyssa DeAngelo (Fairmont State), Leah Johnson (West Chester) and Emilee Weakley (Frostburg State). These five women are now eligible for All-America recognition.
The second team consists of seven players due to a tie in voting. Those selected are Anii Harris (Bowie State),
Rahmena Henderson (IUP), Hya Haywood (Glenville State), Emily McAteer (West Chester), Alana Robinson (Lock Haven), Katie Starr (Bloomsburg) and Dejah Terrell (California (Pa.)).
The 2023-24 D2CCA All-Atlantic Region Women's Basketball Team includes eight seniors, two juniors and two sophomores. The team features seven players from the PSAC, three players from the Mountain East Conference (MEC) and two players from the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA).
Henderson earns another accolade in a stellar season for the Crimson Hawks as a transfer from NCAA DI SEMO. The Neptune, N.J. native become just the second player in program history to earn Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Defensive Athlete of the Year honors.
Henderson is an All-PSAC West First Team honoree, ranking eighth in the conference in scoring (15.5), third in minutes (36.3), first in steals (76) and first in steals/game (2.7).
Her 76 steals rank 14th at IUP for a single season, emerging as a complete player on both ends of the floor. A two-time PSAC West Athlete of the Week on November 20 and February 26, Henderson has played 40 minutes in 13 contests this season. She fired in 21 points on January 6 against Daemen and boasts three double-doubles in 2023-24.
