INDIANA, Pa. – In a showdown of two of the perennial powerhouses of the Atlantic Region, the IUP women's tennis program fell short in a hard-fought 4-3 setback to 45th-ranked Charleston (W.Va.) on Friday at a gusty Maple Street Courts.
IUP falls to 4-8 on the season with the setback. UC improves to 9-4 overall, posting its fourth straight win.
The Hawks claimed the doubles points for an early advantage, winning two of the three flights.
Ming Deewajee and
Dani Ramos led the charge with a 6-3 victory at the No. 1 doubles spot with
Katy Graydon and
Lydia Vlachou following suit in the No. 2 doubles flight (6-4).
The Golden Eagles responded back with wins in four of six singles matches, emerging with the one-point win.
Lydia Vlachou held on for a three-set win in scores of 6-4, 4-6 and 6-1 against Michell Connot at No. 4 singles.
Hannah Beitat recorded a 6-4, 6-4 win at the No. 6 singles flight, defeating Riva Hondiashvilli.
