INDIANA, Pa. — The IUP women's tennis team began Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play with a 5-2 victory against Slippery Rock on Monday afternoon at Maple Street Courts.
IUP moves to 5-8 overall and 1-0 in conference play, snapping a six-match slide. It marks the 10th straight win for IUP against Slippery Rock (6-5, 0-1) since 2019. The Crimson Hawks are 21-1 against SRU since April 2011.
The Crimson Hawks snagged the doubles point and carried the momentum into singles play.
Ming Deewajee and
Dani Ramos set the tone at No. 1 doubles, posting a 6-3 triumph against the duo of Amara Balinger Brau and Nicole Kempton. The win improves the duo's record to 16-10 on the season.
Deewajee and Ramos were also victorious in singles play, winning 6-2, 6-4 and 6-3, 6-1 respectively in the No. 1 and No. 3 singles flights.
Katy Graydon and
Lydia Vlachou continued climbing up the all-time wins list with a 6-3 victory at the No. 2 flight.
Graydon added a singles win at the No. 2 flight, knocking off Brau by scored of 7-6, 1-6 and 1-0 (10-8). Graydon now boasts 137 wins in her career (8th in program history), including 60 in singles play (T12th in program history) and 77 in doubles action (7th in program history).
Vlachou improves to 63-27 in her doubles career, moving to 118 career victories (T14th in program history).
Hannah Beitat began singles play with a victory for the Hawks, knocking off Georgie Lancaster in a 6-1, 6-0 decision.
