Mikesell selected to PSAC Winter Top 10

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – IUP men's swimming student-athlete Luke Mikesell was named to the 2024 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Winter Top 10 Team, announced by the league Friday afternoon. The awards are nominated and voted on by the league's sports information directors.

The PSAC Top 10 was initiated in the 1998-99 academic year, given to men and women who excel in both the classroom and in athletic competition. A total of 10 student-athletes - five men and five women - are chosen after each sports season; fall, winter and spring. To be a candidate for the Top 10 Award, a student-athlete must have achieved a minimum of a 3.50 cumulative grade point average and must be a starter or key reserve with legitimate athletic credentials.

It marks the first PSAC Top 10 honor for Mikesell, who has put together a stellar career with the Crimson Hawks. Mikesell joins fellow men's honorees Noah Bernarding (California), Joshua Gose (Slippery Rock), Josh Herbster (Shippensburg) and KJ McClurg (California).

From Clearfield, Pa., Mikesell boasts a cumulative 3.56 cumulative grade point average as a criminology major. The 2023-24 PSAC Men's Most Outstanding Male Swimmer, Mikesell set the PSAC meet and school record in 500 free in 2023-24 (4:24.65).

A two-time PSAC Champion this season in the 200 free (1:37.56) and 500 free (4:24.65), Mikesell qualified for the 2023-24 NCAA DII National Championships in both events. Named a CSC Academic All-District honoree earlier this year, the PSAC Top 10 honor is the first for Mikesell.

He boasts eight total All-PSAC finishes during his IUP career, awarded to the top three finishers at the PSAC Championships. He is an All-American in the 500 free, finishing fourth in the event at the 2021 NCAA DII Championships.

IUP boasts 70 total PSAC Top 10 recipients overall, third in the league behind Slippery Rock (80) and Shippensburg (79). More information on the PSAC Top 10 can be found below or here.
