INDIANA, Pa. – The IUP men's golf team cruised to its second tournament victory of the season, posting a solid round of 283 on Tuesday and capturing the trophy for the 59th Annual Cecil C. Spadafora Invitational, wrapping up action at Indiana Country Club.
The Hawks finished 16 shots clear of second-place Charleston (W.Va.) in an event that featured some of the top-ranked teams in the region. IUP finished with a two-round total of 564, placing its entire scoring lineup among the top six overall.
Gunnar McCollins won individual medalist honors following a three-player playoff that also included IUP's
Aidan LeBlanc and Charleston's Paul Sanchez. All three competitors finished with identical rounds of 70 each day, finishing the tournament at -2 overall.
LeBlanc registered three birdies over his first six holes on Tuesday, finishing with five birdies for the round.
Shaun Fedor and
Alex Swinnerton each finished tied for fourth individually behind rounds of 70 and 71, respectively.
Fedor eagles the par-five fifth hole for the Crimson Hawks and played the final 10 holes of the day at a combined -1 clip. Fedor was the only player in the field with an under-par scoring average on par threes in the event.
Meanwhile, Swinnerton closed his round on a high note with a birdie at 18 that included a strong chip to set up the birdie putt.
Guillermo Salazar finished in a tie for sixth overall with a one-over 72. Salazar matched Sanches (Charleston) with a -6 combined tally on par fives, tied for the lowest in the field.
Jon Vinge propelled 15 places on the leaderboard on Tuesday behind a one-under 71, finishing tied for 23rd as an individual competitor.
Cameron Gerue logged a tie for 30th (75) with
John Olsen closing out the IUP lineup as an individual in a tie for 72nd (76). As a team, IUP was -10 on par five holes and led the field with 117 total pars.
Tuesday's tournament victory was the second for the IUP men's golf team this season, previously claiming first place at the Post Invitational on October 10.
