IUP women drop OT decision in second straight outing

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. — Shippensburg erased a pair of five-goal deficits, posting the final three tallies and dealing the IUP women's lacrosse team a 16-15 overtime setback on Wednesday at a dreary Robb Sports Complex.

In its final nonconference game of the 2024 slate, IUP falls to 4-5 overall. Shippensburg snapped a seven-game slide with the overtime victory, improving to 2-7 in a tough Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East division.

The Raiders evened the score at 15 with just 48 seconds to go before Sara Vosberg netted her 26th goal of the season in overtime. IUP held a slight 26-25 edge in shots on goal and won 19 draw controls on the day.

Shippensburg also snapped a 12-game losing streak in the head-to-head series with the Crimson Hawks.

Playing without defensive stalwart Maggie Marsteller, the Crimson Hawks got off to a strong start with an 8-4 lead after the first quarter. The Raiders eventually settled in, trimming the deficit to 10-8 by halftime before firing in five third quarter goals.

Chantal Jimenez surpassed 100 career goals at IUP with five goals, one assist, three ground balls and five draw controls. Jimenez is the only player in program history with at least 100 career goals and 300 career draw controls. She is the 11th player in program history to reach 100 collegiate goals.

Macenzie Haragos chipped in three goals, one assist and a pair of draw controls.

Maggie Kilgallon posted one goal and three ground balls in the starting lineup for the Hawks. Julia Steere finished off a feed from Leah Moyer for a 15-13 lead in the fourth quarter, proving to be the final marker of the afternoon for the Hawks.

Steere's goal closed a three-goal surge for the Hawks that flipped momentum back in favor of the visitors. Vosberg handed the Raiders a 13-12 margin with under four minutes left in the third.

A spurt of six consecutive goals stretched IUP's early lead to 8-3 after the opening quarter. Jimenez posted three straight goals in the surge before Alexi Crosby finished off the scoring run with consecutive tallies at the 4:26 and 2:54 marks.

The third and fourth quarters were up and down with both sides using timely scoring runs to keep the score close. Maddy Schramm made nine saves in 56 minutes for the Hawks.
