IUP women’s lacrosse makes late push in road loss to Seton Hill

GREENSBURG, Pa. – The IUP women's lacrosse played with great urgency in the second half, unable to close the deficit in a 17-13 road loss to Seton Hill on Wednesday afternoon in Greensburg.

Seton Hill closes out the regular season with seven consecutive victories, going 13-4 overall and 11-1 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). The Griffins secured the PSAC West regular season title and will host the conference tournament next weekend.

Meanwhile, IUP slips to 7-9 overall and 6-5 in the league. With one game remaining, the Crimson Hawks have been eliminated from playoff contention. Chantal Jimenez led the Hawks with four goals, two ground balls, three caused turnovers and six draw controls.

Jimenez is now two draw controls shy of matching the program record of 345 and three draw controls from sole possession of the program record. Emme Mass and Leah Moyer recorded two goals apiece for IUP, while Kim Carpentiere had a big day defensively with five ground balls and four caused turnovers.

Seton Hill opened the game with five consecutive goals, later extending its lead to 9-2 about five minutes into the second quarter. The Crimson Hawks used stretches of three and four consecutive goals to get back within striking distance heading into the fourth quarter.

Sarah Reustle cashed in on the free position with 4:54 left in the third, bringing IUP within 13-9 before Moyer capped the third quarter scoring. The teams traded goals throughout the fourth quarter with the Griffins able to keep the Crimson Hawks at bay.
