INDIANA, Pa. -- The IUP women's soccer program opened up conference play with a 2-0 shutout win over visiting Clarion on Wednesday afternoon at South Campus.
The conference victory followed a regional win for the Crimson Hawks (2-0), coming against Frostburg State in the opening game of the season.
IUP controlled most of the game's possession throughout, creating several chances but failed to capitalize.
Clarion (1-2) withstood the early pressure defensively before IUP eventually broke through.
Kristen Finnerty scored in the 33rd minute when she received the ball off a Clarion turnover, cut inside and found the back of the net.
The second half was more of the same as IUP continued to control the tempo of the game. Clarion's lone chance of the game came in the second half with Makenna Yarrow and the IUP defense up to the task.
Looking to secure an insurance second goal, IUP pushed forward and converted and in the 79th minute. Avery Clanton gathered and struck it with precision and into the far corner to solidify control of the game for the Hawks.
IUP has scored four goals from four different scorers in the opening two games of the season.
