INDIANA, Pa. – IUP (10-4, 0-1 PSAC) was unable to hold a two-set lead, falling to Seton Hill (11-1, 1-0 PSAC) during the conference opener 3-2 at the KCAC. Playing all five sets, scores were 26-24, 25-15, 24-26, 18-24, 12-15.
From the first serve the Hawks and Golden Eagles knew they would have to lock in, notable performances from both teams during tonight's matchup.
Peyton Belcher hit .417% in the first set, racking in five kills. Belcher totaled a team-high 17 points as well as 14 kills for the Hawks. Simay Memisoglu followed Belcher with 11 kills, both Lauren Valentic and Jessica Neiman had 10, Nyla Birch recorded eight, and Rylee Brown finished with six. Olivia Heidel dished out 27 assists, a career-high for her at IUP. Not far behind her, Kat Warpinski tallied 21. Lauren Valentic marked a career night totaling 11 blocks, seven of them being solo.
During the second set, the Hawks jumped out to a big lead going on an eight-point run in the beginning and a six-point run in the middle, finally closing out the set with a score of 25-15.
The Hawks were down five points 18-13, through the third, two kills from Nyla Birch helped tie up the match at 20. A kill from Seton Hill's Rodberg tied the teams again at 24. IUP was unable to finish, letting Seton Hill take the third, as well as the fourth.
Forcing the fifth set, both teams continued to battle until the end. Seton Hill went on a 5-0 run to start, unfortunately, IUP came close but was unable to close the gap.
