Pair of double-doubles lead IUP to decisive win against Clarion, 84-57

INDIANA, Pa. – Two double-doubles and 12 made three-pointers secured IUP men's basketball decisive 84-57 win over Clarion, Saturday afternoon inside the KCAC.
 
IUP improved to 10-9 overall and 6-6 in the PSAC, while Clarion dropped to 9-9 overall and 4-8 in the conference.
 
Three IUP players scored over 15 points this afternoon, with two achieving double-doubles. Christian Moore led the Hawks with 23 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, and five three-pointers. Tyler Grove contributed 19 points, 10 rebounds, one block, a steal, and three three-pointers. Kymani Merraro rounded out the top three scorers with 16 points, two steals, six assists, and shot 6-for-8 from the field. 
 
IUP shot .516 from the field, made 12 three-pointers, and scored 21 points off turnovers. 
 
The first half saw a back-and-forth battle until IUP took the lead for good at the 7:02 mark. Grove made an early three at 17:34, followed by a Damir Brook's dunk at 16:18 to put them within one, 8-7. Grove scored five consecutive points to put the Hawks back in the lead, 17-16 at 13:05. The teams traded a few more baskets before Moore's three-pointer gave the Hawks the lead, 26-24. 
 
After some more traded baskets, Moore's three-pointer at 9:18 put IUP ahead, 26-24. A brief scoring drought ended with another three from Moore, and consecutive baskets by Merraro and Sarp Furtun extended the lead to nine, which continued their 12-point run. 
 
Another dunk by Brooks positioned the Hawks up 13 points, the largest lead of the first half before Grove made a jumper to close out the first, 41-32. 
 
Moore dominated the opening minutes of the second half, scoring IUP's first 10 points. The Hawks then hit four consecutive three-pointers to stretch their lead to 27 points. Alfonso Pickens Jr. added a layup at 11:40, and a jumper by Brooks gave IUP its largest lead of the night at 29 points. Callum Macnamara scored IUP's final basket of the night at 2:23.

IUP travels next Wednesday, January 29 to California (Pa.) to take on the Vulcans inside the Convocation Center with tipoff set for 7:30 p.m.
