INDIANA, Pa. — Freshman Kat Morgan broke a scoreless deadlock in the 68th minute, lifting IUP to a 1-0 win over Gannon on Saturday at South Campus Field.
Morgan finished a setup from junior Taylor Serrano, giving the Crimson Hawks the only offense they needed in a tight Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference matchup. The goal marked Morgan's second of the season and helped IUP hand Gannon just its first conference loss of the year.
Despite being out-cornered 5-1, IUP made the most of its limited chances. The Crimson Hawks put both of their shots on frame, while the Golden Knights failed to register a shot on goal.
IUP goalkeeper Sarah Gatz stopped one shot and earned the shutout behind a disciplined defensive effort. The Crimson Hawks were whistled for seven fouls, compared to six for Gannon, which drew a pair of yellow cards in the second half.
With the victory, IUP improved to 11-2-2 overall and 9-1-1 in the PSAC, strengthening its position among the conference's top contenders. Gannon dropped to 13-1-1 and 9-1-1.
IUP continues its push toward postseason seeding when it returns to action next week, as the team will travel to Johnstown, followed by a clash with California at South Campus Field on Nov. 1.
