Gatz makes ten saves, IUP and Gannon play to draw

ERIE, Pa. — Elle Smith scored again for IUP, but sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Gatz stole the spotlight, making 10 saves on 11 shots to help the Crimson Hawks earn a 1-1 draw against Gannon, ending the Golden Knights' eight-game winning streak.

Gannon outshot IUP 26-5, with the Hawks getting four of their five shots on goal. Six of Gatz's saves came in the second half. The Knights also held IUP scoreless on corner kicks, while taking eight set pieces against the Crimson Hawks' defense.

The draw marks IUP's second of the season and first in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play, improving the team's record to 6-1-2 overall and 4-1-1 in the PSAC. Gannon falls to 8-0-1, 5-0-1 in conference action.

IUP will host Edinboro at South Campus Field on Oct. 8. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
