IUP beats Kutztown behind Merraro’s hot shooting, 78–71

KUTZTOWN, Pa. — Indiana (Pa.) used a hot-shooting first half and a career night from Kymani Merraro to beat Kutztown 78–71 on Thursday afternoon at Keystone Arena.

Merraro scored 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting, including 5-for-7 from 3-point range, as the Crimson Hawks (5–1) won their third straight game. IUP knocked down 12 3-pointers and forced 17 turnovers, turning them into 18 points.

Dallis Dillard added 18 points, seven assists and six steals while Christian Moore finished with 17 points, all but two coming from behind the arc. Damir Brooks had 10 points before fouling out.

IUP led 42–33 at halftime after shooting 53% from the field in the opening 20 minutes. Merraro and Moore combined for nine of the Hawks' 12 first-half threes.

Kutztown (2–2) stayed within reach behind 19 points each from Jalen Bryant and Jordan Nkoa Abessolo. The Golden Bears dominated the glass 36–26 and scored 32 points in the paint, but the Hawks' perimeter shooting proved too much to overcome.

Bryant went 8-for-9 at the line and added five rebounds, while Nkoa Abessolo grabbed nine boards.

IUP held a double-digit lead for most of the second half, stretching the margin to as many as 16. Kutztown cut it to seven in the final minute, but the Hawks closed it out at the line.

The Crimson Hawks will return to the court after finals week, as IUP will host Mansfield as part of a men's and women's doubleheader at the Kovalchick Convention and Athletics Center on Dec. 16.
