IUP stuns No.21 Edinboro with thrilling overtime win on senior day

INDIANA, Pa. – The IUP women's basketball program came up with a thrilling overtime victory on senior day over No. 21 Edinboro, 76-72, after Ellie Wilkerson made a three-pointer that forced overtime. 

With this win, IUP improved to 18-4 overall and 13-3 in the conference. Edinboro dropped to 19-5 overall and 14-3 in the conference. 

Shamia Strayhorn led the floor with 23 points and made three steals. Nyshae' Weaver notched a double-double, tallying 12 points and 12 rebounds, along with one block and one steal. Janeira Scott contributed across the board with nine points, five assists, two steals, and a block.
 
Weaver scored four points before Edinboro got an early nine-point lead after they hit consecutive three-pointers. Strayhorn finished the first quarter contributing the remaining seven points, including a three-pointer that cut the trail to six points. 
 
In the second, Wilkerson added two baskets before Scott added a layup at 6:19. Grace Centrulla and Strayhorn each contributed layups to bring IUP within seven, 28-21. IUP ended the first half with a 5-0 run. 
 
IUP got off to a slow start in the third quarter, with Weaver adding four points before Wilkerson's layup at 3:14 sparked a 10-2 run.
 
At 4:57 in the fourth, Centrulla made a layup that put IUP within three points. Edinboro hit a three-pointer, but Marin Miller answered with one of her own at 2:33. Wilkerson hit a crucial three-pointer with a minute on the clock to tie up the game, and a final second steal by her sent the game into overtime. 
 
Miller opened overtime with a layup followed by another one from Wilkerson. At 1:18, Scott hit a three-pointer and converted four free throws, 73-69. IUP secured the victory with three more made free throws, 76-72.

IUP will travel to Seton Hill on Wednesday, February 19 for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.
