INDIANA, Pa. -- Despite Nyshae Weaver's double-double, IUP was unable to get ahead of Seton Hill in their overtime loss Wednesday evening on the road.
IUP dropped to 13-4 in the PSAC and 18-5 overall while Seton Hill improved to 15-2 in the conference and 21-3 overall.
Weaver had a stellar night, notching a double-double with 24 points and 20 rebounds. She also made 9-of-10 field goal attempts and added two assists. Both
Shamia Strayhorn and
Ellie Wilkerson contributed 18 points. Strayhorn grabbed six rebounds, three steals, and had two assists. Wilkerson grabbed seven rebounds and two steals.
Janeira Scott led the team with four steals and four assists.
IUP began the night with an 8-0 lead before the Griffins responded with their own 8-0 run to tie the score. Strayhorn added a layup at 3:23, followed by a steal by her and a layup from Jordan, to put IUP up three. Weaver ended the first quarter with a layup, 22-16.
In the second, the teams traded baskets before Wilkerson added two consecutive baskets and five points.
Grace Centrulla got one off before the half to put the Hawks ahead by four, 33-29.
Wilkerson opened the third with consecutive three-pointers at the 8:45 mark.
Marin Miller added a jumper at 2:13 which was followed by two made free throws from Weaver to close out the quarter just before Seton Hill tied the game at 50 apiece.
Scott made a layup at 7:49 just before Wilkerson grabbed a steal that set up Weaver for another layup. The teams traded a few more baskets before Strayhorn made a three-pointer, 61-58. With just six seconds left in regulation, Scott made a layup to put the Hawks up three, however, the Griffins hit a three-pointer as time expired to send the game into overtime.
In overtime, Seton Hill hit two early three-pointers that helped them to a five-point lead at 2:18. Strayhorn hit a three-pointer with 14 seconds left, which put IUP within two, although they gave up two free throws that sealed the deal for Seton Hill.
