LOCK HAVEN, Pa. -- The IUP department of athletics ranks sixth in the 2024-25 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Dixon Trophy standings, released Tuesday.
Released through the winter sports season, IUP is sixth among conference schools in men's sports with an average of 10.00, while the women's teams slotted seventh in the league with an average of 10.36. Overall, IUP boasts an average of 10.19 through the winter seasons, ranking sixth among PSAC West schools.
The Dixon Trophy is awarded at the end of each academic year to the league's most successful program based on conference playoff and/or regular-season finishes. Standings are compiled based on the average score for all PSAC championship sports each school sponsors. Equal to its total membership, each conference sport champion is awarded 17 points, and a descending point value is given for respective place finishes. The second-through last-place values vary depending on the number of teams that sponsor the sport.
The men's swimming team placed fifth with seven points and indoor track and field placed eighth with seven points as well after their () place finish. Men's basketball tied for seventh with 10.5 points after they made an appearance in the PSAC Quarterfinals.
The women's swimming team placed second with 14 points after their () place finish in the PSAC Championships. Indoor track and field placed 10th with six points. Women's basketball placed eighth with 10 points after they made an appearance in the PSAC Quartefinals.
Gannon holds onto their first place through the winter sports with 13.25 points. Defending champion East Stroudsburg sits in second (1.45), Slippery Rock moved up to third (10.95), West Chester jumped to fourth (10.39), and Kutztown rounded out the top five (10.27).
Introduced in the 1995-96 academic year, the award is named in honor of F. Eugene Dixon, Jr., former chairman of Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education's Board of Governors. Since then, nine PSAC institutions have claimed the Dixon Trophy. Shippensburg leads the conference with eight victories, followed by West Chester's five. Lock Haven and Bloomsburg have three titles apiece, while California, Gannon, and Slippery Rock follow with two victories. Kutztown and Millersville have each won once.
The final update of the 2024-25 Dixon Trophy standings will be released following the conclusion of the PSAC's spring championship season.
