ERIE, Pa. -- The IUP women's lacrosse team picked up a road win this afternoon at Gannon, defeating the Golden Knights 17-8.
Kathryn Burke led the charge for the Hawks with four goals and an assist.
Julia Steere and
Maggie Boyle each tallied four points, scoring three goals apiece.
Emme Mass and
Brenna Whiteside each found the net twice, with Whiteside also contributing two assists. Three other players added one goal each.
Burke won the opening draw control and quickly set up Steere for the first goal at 14:30. Gannon answered two minutes later with a goal of their own. Burke added her first goal of the day around the 10-minute mark. Steere added her second, assisted by Burke, while
Macenzie Haragos scored at 4:26, giving the Hawks a 4-2 lead.
Mia Martorano notched her first goal of the season early in the second quarter before Gannon responded with back-to-back goals within a minute. IUP then went on a six-goal run to take an 11-4 lead at halftime.
The teams each traded a pair of goals in the third quarter while Mass scored consecutive goals two minutes apart. Whiteside closed out the quarter with a goal at the 40-second mark.
At 13:48 in the fourth,
Maggie Kilgallon scored a goal from a free position attempt. Both teams added two more goals apiece to round out the game.
